Student Transportation Provider Zum Enters New York Market

With its entry into New York, Redwood City-based Zum has officially expanded its student transportation services to 19 states. The company, which manages a technology-driven fleet for over 6,500 schools nationwide, aims to use this new foothold to scale its operations across the broader Northeast region in the coming months.

The expansion signals a push by the student mobility firm to replace traditional, fragmented transportation models with its proprietary CMX platform. By integrating real-time operations, vehicle tracking, and communication, the company seeks to address common logistical bottlenecks faced by school districts. While the firm confirmed its entry into the state, specific district-level partnerships remain pending and are expected to be announced shortly.

Founder and CEO Ritu Narayan noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to standardize school transit reliability. According to Liz Sanchez, Executive Vice President of Student Mobility, the New York market serves as a natural anchor for further growth. The company currently positions its service as an alternative to legacy systems, emphasizing transparency and accountability for families and administrators alike.
