Indiana American Water Pledges $70,000 for Flood Recovery Efforts

The American Water Charitable Foundation is directing $55,000 to the American Red Cross to bolster statewide disaster relief, building on a $25,000 grant issued earlier this summer for tornado recovery. Beyond the national partnership, the organization is distributing targeted grants through its State Strategic Impact Grant Program. The Legacy Foundation in Merrillville and the Hamilton County Community Foundation in Noblesville each received $5,000 to manage local recovery initiatives, while the cities of Muncie and Richmond were awarded $2,500 apiece for emergency response activities.

Financial contributions are only part of the utility's broader mobilization. As floodwaters encroached on critical treatment infrastructure, company personnel worked around the clock to maintain service, even as some employees dealt with property damage in their own neighborhoods. In Cambridge City, the utility deployed a mobile drinking water semi-trailer to support local first responders and residents. Barry L. Suits, President of Indiana American Water, noted that these efforts are intended to bolster community resilience, emphasizing that the company’s mission extends to supporting the health and well-being of the regions they serve during weather-related emergencies.
