Utah Defense Coalition Aims to Close Military Industrial Gap

The initiative, spearheaded by the Utah-based national security firm CenCore, functions as a structured network connecting government demand with private-sector capability. Approximately 80 percent of the participating firms are small or mid-sized non-traditional businesses, many of which are veteran-owned. These companies specialize in diverse fields ranging from edge AI and autonomous systems to secure communications and advanced manufacturing.

CenCore acts as the primary orchestrator for the ecosystem, aiming to bridge the so-called "Valley of Death" that often prevents innovative defense technology from reaching the field. By integrating these smaller players into a unified production pipeline, the group seeks to expand the defense industrial base beyond the influence of traditional prime contractors. CenCore CEO Adam Fife emphasized that the model prioritizes mission readiness over bureaucracy, positioning the warfighter as the primary stakeholder in the coalition's development efforts.
