IDnow Secures QEAA Certification to Bridge European Identity Gap

London-based identity provider IDnow has achieved certification to issue Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes (QEAAs), providing a regulated pathway for businesses to verify customer data. The move addresses critical compliance hurdles as financial institutions scramble to meet stringent Anti-Money Laundering Regulation requirements ahead of the 2027 deadline.

The certification process involved a rigorous conformity assessment of IDnow Trust Services AB, covering technical issuance, attribute proofing, and IT security. By adhering to ETSI EN 319 401 and ETSI TS 119 471 standards, the firm successfully navigated audits without a single non-conformity. The report is now under review by Sweden’s Post- och telestyrelsen for final inclusion on the EU Trust List.

Financial institutions currently face a significant challenge: national eID schemes and the nascent EUDI Wallet often lack the granular data required by the upcoming AMLR, which mandates verification of specific credentials like tax IDs and professional certifications by July 10, 2027. IDnow intends to fill this void by integrating identity verification and QEAA issuance into a single, audit-ready workflow. According to Johannes Leser, Managing Director of IDnow Trust Services, the company provides a compliant solution that operates independently of existing, slower-moving infrastructure rollout timelines. These machine-readable credentials can be deployed directly into existing onboarding flows or directed into the EUDI Wallet, offering a scalable alternative to fragmented national systems.
