The skincare giant shared a statement on Instagram, admitting that its decision to terminate its partnership with Panettiere in 2015 contradicted the company’s core values. Panettiere had previously revealed on Jay Shetty’s podcast that the brand invoked a morals clause to fire her after she spoke openly about her mental health. She described the loss of the decade-long collaboration as a devastating moment, noting she never expected honesty about her postpartum experience to result in her termination.
Neutrogena’s acknowledgement follows significant public backlash from fans and peers who criticized the company’s history with the actress. In response, the brand stated it intentionally delayed its public comments to respect the privacy of Panettiere’s family during their initial grieving period. The company also announced plans to make a significant financial investment in a community health partner to improve women’s access to mental health resources. Panettiere, who passed away on August 16 following a reported cardiac arrest, was found by emergency responders in the presence of her on-again-off-again partner, Brian Hickerson, who has since requested privacy through legal counsel.
