Precision Medicine Takes Center Stage for ILD Day 2026

With over 250,000 Americans currently navigating the complexities of interstitial lung disease, the sixth annual ILD Day on September 16 will focus on shifting treatment paradigms. A national awareness initiative, the event highlights how precision medicine is moving beyond generalized care toward highly individualized patient management.

The centerpiece of this year's observation is a free live webinar featuring Dr. John Kim of UVA Health. He will detail how integrating genetics, biomarkers, and specific disease subtypes into clinical practice can reduce the reliance on trial-and-error prescribing. By tailoring interventions to the unique biological profile of each patient, researchers aim to improve long-term outcomes for those suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and other forms of ILD.

Amy Hajari Case, Chief Medical Officer of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, emphasizes that the initiative serves to bridge the gap between rapidly evolving scientific research and the practical needs of families. The event is supported by a coalition of 13 health organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation and the National Scleroderma Foundation, all operating under the umbrella of Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month. Registration for the webinar is available at ILDDay.org.
