Curve Dental Commits $200 Million to Cloud Software R&D

With annual recurring revenue nearing $100 million, Curve Dental is doubling down on its cloud-based platform with a fresh $200 million research and development investment. Chairman and CEO Dave Cormack aims to accelerate the dental industry's transition away from aging client-server systems, forecasting a wave of market consolidation.

The Alpharetta-based company, which currently claims roughly 20% of the cloud dental practice market, plans to expand its native, AI-driven capabilities for practices of all sizes. Since 2018, the firm has achieved steady organic growth, allowing for consistent annual reinvestment in product development. Cormack, a veteran of high-growth software, argues that the current market is oversaturated with fragmented, legacy-based solutions that force practices to manage multiple vendors.

Cormack predicts that nearly 40% of existing practice management software vendors may vanish within the next four years as they struggle to compete with fully integrated cloud platforms. According to the CEO, many competitors are burning through capital to secure market share rather than focusing on native integration and R&D. By maintaining a single-sign-on platform that handles everything from patient engagement to revenue cycle management, Curve intends to position itself as the long-term standard for the roughly 160,000 dental practices across North America, 85% of which still rely on outdated technology.
