Castelion Secures $1 Billion to Accelerate Hypersonic Missile Production

Torrance-based defense startup Castelion has raised $1 billion in a Series C funding round, valuing the company at $13 billion. The capital injection is set to scale the mass production of its Blackbeard hypersonic strike missile and fund the development of next-generation, longer-range precision weapons and defensive systems.

The financing consists of $800 million in equity and a $250 million revolving credit facility, attracting a heavy-hitting investor syndicate including JPMorganChase, Andreessen Horowitz, and Carlyle. This influx of capital arrives as the company transitions from early flight testing to high-rate production at its 1,000-acre Project Ranger facility in Sandoval County, New Mexico.

Castelion has secured over $500 million in U.S. military contracts in the past 18 months, moving its flagship Blackbeard platform from a clean-sheet design to a program of record in under four years. CEO Bryon Hargis stated that the company aims to restore conventional deterrence by pairing high-performance technology with industrial-scale manufacturing capacity. The new funding will prioritize three core objectives: expanding the New Mexico production footprint, accelerating a longer-range strike system built on existing Blackbeard architecture, and applying its rapid-iteration manufacturing model to new air and missile defense projects.
