Video surveillance captured two individuals disguised as delivery workers approaching Beller outside a hotel before opening fire. The 33-year-old victim, who is four weeks pregnant, survived the attack and has since linked the violence to her vocal opposition against Decree 5503—a controversial package of economic reforms she alleges Cerimedo helped draft. Beller, who maintained a personal relationship with the operative, publicly stated from her hospital bed that she believes the attack was a calculated attempt to silence her regarding high-level corruption.

Cerimedo, often described as a key conduit between the U.S. MAGA movement and regional right-wing figures, maintains his innocence. His legal counsel, Ernesto Giraldes, claims his client traveled to Santa Cruz specifically to visit the victim and was not attempting to flee to Argentina. Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz has publicly condemned the violence, calling for a transparent investigation into the incident, which he described as a threat to both democracy and freedom of expression. This arrest marks another chapter of scrutiny for Cerimedo, who previously faced allegations of political interference and domestic violence within the country.
