Topnotch Resort Debuts Maxwell’s as Part of Stowe Expansion

Stowe’s Topnotch Resort is transforming its culinary footprint with the launch of Maxwell’s, a signature restaurant replacing the existing space formerly known as The Roost. The new venue anchors a broader property renovation, serving as both a local tribute and a strategic pivot toward modern alpine-inspired luxury.

Maxwell’s draws its name from Maxwell Cummings, the patriarch of the family that once owned and stewarded the resort. By blending European-influenced sophistication with Vermont’s seasonal sourcing, the restaurant aims to mirror the hospitality legacy Cummings established in the region. The interior design features warm wood textures, brass accents, and panoramic vistas of the Green Mountains, visible from a new wraparound bar. According to General Manager Matthew Wheeler, the project serves as a bridge between the property’s six-decade history and its future trajectory.

Beyond the dining room, the resort is undergoing a comprehensive site-wide upgrade. This includes the introduction of 27 turnkey condominiums dubbed Topnotch Residences, featuring interiors curated by RH. Additional renovations cover the existing 68 hotel rooms, the lobby area, Flannel Restaurant, and the spa facilities. Management confirmed that the resort will continue operations throughout the construction period, which is being executed in phased stages.
