Lincoln Avenue Communities Breaks Ground on Dallas Senior Housing

A 19-acre lot once owned by Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Dallas’ District 8 is transforming into Tabor Village, a 229-unit senior housing development. Lincoln Avenue Communities launched the project this week, aiming to address the city’s acute shortage of affordable living options for its aging population.

The development will offer a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments designed for varying income levels. Under the current plan, 15% of units are reserved for residents earning up to 50% of the Area Median Income, 75% for those at 60% of AMI, and the remaining 10% will be available at market rates. Amenities include fitness facilities, a swimming pool, and walking trails.

Blake Hopkins, an LAC Vice President, cited the project as a critical move toward housing stability for long-term Dallas residents. The initiative arrives as local data highlights a stark reality: over 42,000 elderly individuals in Dallas live alone, with more than 31,000 existing at or below the poverty line. Pastor Branden D. Walker of the neighboring Mt. Tabor Baptist Church emphasized that the community’s commitment to its seniors is reflected in such developments.

Financed by Citibank and WNC & Associates, the project is a collaborative effort between Lincoln Avenue Communities, the City of Dallas Housing Finance Corporation, and Onyx Legacy Group. It serves as a flagship effort for LAC, which currently manages over 30,500 units across 33 states.
