Flor de Caña Secures Sustainability Product of the Year Title

Nicaraguan rum producer Flor de Caña has claimed the Sustainability Product of the Year award at the 2026 Sustainability Awards. The Business Intelligence Group honored the brand for its long-term environmental initiatives, including the use of 100% renewable energy and an ongoing, massive reforestation effort spanning the distillery’s history.

The independent panel of experts behind the award highlighted the brand’s ability to maintain Carbon Neutral certification since 2019 while integrating CO2 capture and recycling into its fermentation process. Russ Fordyce, Chief Recognition Officer at the Business Intelligence Group, noted that the distillery’s approach demonstrates that carbon neutrality functions as a long-term discipline rather than a singular marketing claim.

Beyond its environmental certifications, the company continues to rely on traditional methods established in 1890. The rum is naturally aged at the base of an active volcano in American white oak barrels, eschewing sugar and artificial additives. This production model has earned the brand recognition across international markets, including titles such as "World's Most Sustainable Rum Brand" in the U.S. and the "Ethical Award" in the U.K. With over 135 years of family-led production, the brand remains focused on scaling its renewable energy infrastructure while maintaining the flavor profile of its 12, 18, and 25-year-old expressions.
