Riley Burruss Addresses Reality TV Backlash and Racist Harassment

After a turbulent second season on Bravo’s Next Gen NYC, Riley Burruss is confronting the intense criticism directed at her behavior. While acknowledging her own faults during on-screen arguments, the reality star is drawing a firm line between televised drama and the racist abuse she has faced from online critics.

Burruss opened up about the situation during an August 2026 appearance on Gia Giudice’s Casual Chaos podcast. She admitted that her portrayal on the show, which included heated verbal clashes with castmates Georgia McCann and Ariana Biermann, left her open to valid critique. Specifically, she conceded that her behavior during an episode four girls’ night—where she made classist remarks regarding a Birkin handbag—warranted the label of a spoiled brat. She noted that she retreated from contact with her costars after her phone number was leaked, leading her to disconnect for a week.

However, Burruss distinguished between these behavioral criticisms and the targeted harassment she has received. She condemned the influx of racist messages, including the use of slurs and microaggressions, which she says never occur during face-to-face interactions. Her mother, Kandi Burruss, has also publicly addressed the situation on her Speak On It podcast, confirming that her daughter has been targeted with hate mail and racially charged threats. The cast of Next Gen NYC recently filmed their first-ever reunion special with Andy Cohen, though Bravo has yet to announce an air date for the episode.
