The acquisition marks a pivotal shift in Piramal’s strategy to dominate the biologics landscape. Since holding an initial stake in 2021, the company has worked to weave Yapan Bio’s expertise—specifically in process development and phase I and II GMP manufacturing—into its Piramal Pharma Solutions division. By absorbing the firm as a subsidiary, Piramal aims to accelerate the development of complex large molecule therapies.
Peter DeYoung, CEO of Piramal Global Pharma, noted that the move is intended to bolster the company’s global service network and meet rising demand for biologic treatments. Beyond general manufacturing, the integration strengthens ADCelerate, the company’s platform for antibody-drug conjugation, which targets a 12-month timeline for R&D to GMP production. Operating under the Piramal umbrella, Yapan Bio will now serve as a primary engine for the company’s vaccine and gene therapy development efforts.
