Resources for Independent Living receives $20,000 workforce grant

A $20,000 grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation and California American Water will bolster employment training for Sacramento residents with disabilities. The funding targets programs at Resources for Independent Living, an organization focused on removing barriers to professional success and fostering long-term economic self-sufficiency.

The grant specifically supports the expansion of career preparation, job placement assistance, and skill-building workshops currently offered by the nonprofit. By providing these targeted services, the organization aims to help participants transition into the workforce and maintain steady employment. Executive Director Brandi Bluel noted that the investment is crucial for scaling services that allow individuals to pursue meaningful careers and reach higher levels of independence.

Jason Alviar, External Affairs Lead for California American Water, emphasized that the partnership aligns with the company’s broader community support initiatives. The funding is distributed through the foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing program, which prioritizes professional development and equitable access to career opportunities. This collaboration marks another step in the utility’s local outreach, focusing on strengthening the regional labor market by providing the resources necessary for inclusive community participation.
