The 17-inch dolls are crafted to mimic the weight and feel of a newborn, weighing 2.2 pounds. Beyond the physical construction, each doll includes a Cuddle Key, a digital code that owners scan to unlock specific behavioral traits. This system dictates how the doll responds during play, defining its laughter, comfort preferences, and movement patterns. By allowing children to select base features like gender and skin tone before revealing surprise elements—such as eye color, hair style, and facial expressions—MGA aims to shift the play experience from mass-market retail to a personalized, one-of-a-kind discovery.
Josh Hackbarth, Chief Marketing Officer at MGA Entertainment, noted that the project was designed to foster a sense of individual connection, treating each toy as a specific, meant-to-be discovery rather than a standard product. To support the launch, the company released a cinematic campaign titled "One in a Billion," produced with VIRTUE Worldwide, which integrates a shoppable digital journey. The dolls are currently available through major retailers including Target, Walmart, and Amazon, packaged in reusable molded bassinets.
