Law Roach and the Permanent Red Carpet Ban on Fashion’s Big Five

Law Roach and the Permanent Red Carpet Ban on Fashion’s Big Five

“If you say no, it’ll be a no forever,” stylist Law Roach says of his and Zendaya’s firm refusal to wear designs from five major fashion houses. The boycott stems from early career rejections, a grudge that remains strictly enforced for the actress despite the stylist’s own softened stance.

The list of excluded brands includes Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, and Saint Laurent. According to Roach, these houses repeatedly turned down requests to dress the actress during her early years, often labeling her as “too green” for their calendars. While Roach admits he has personally moved past the pettiness—even wearing Saint Laurent himself—he confirms that Zendaya maintains the boundary on the red carpet.

Though these brands occasionally appear in editorial shoots, public appearances remain off-limits unless a specific contract dictates otherwise. This professional rigidity highlights the unique dynamic between the pair, who have worked together since Zendaya was 14. Roach, who famously refers to the actress as his “fashion soulmate,” notes that while he typically keeps strict boundaries with clients to avoid blurring business and friendship, Zendaya is the sole exception. Their collaboration remains a constant, surviving even Roach’s 2023 announcement regarding his retirement from styling other clients.
