SITC Names Five Pioneers to Academy of Immuno-Oncology

Five researchers whose work shifted cancer immunotherapy from theoretical potential to clinical standard have been named to the 2026 Class of Fellows of the Academy of Immuno-Oncology. The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer will formally induct these leaders during its annual meeting in Phoenix this November.

The incoming cohort includes Mary (Nora) Disis of the University of Washington, independent director Kristen Hege, and Rachel Humphrey of Normunity, Inc. Joining them are John M. Kirkwood from the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, alongside Hans-Georg Rammensee of the University of Tübingen. These individuals were selected for their decades of scientific innovation and mentorship that have fundamentally altered patient care.

SITC Executive Council Chair Leisha A. Emens noted that election to the Academy serves as a hallmark of excellence, honoring those who have provided the foundation for current and future breakthroughs. The induction ceremony will take place during the SITC 2026 Annual Meeting, scheduled for Nov. 4–8 in Arizona and via virtual sessions. The organization intends to open the nomination process for the 2027 class next spring.
