Mathis joins the firm after nearly a decade at MartinFederal Consulting, where he served as CEO and oversaw the company’s sale earlier this year. His background includes 25 years in commercial banking within the North Alabama market, a region heavily influenced by federal operations and agency presence. In his new role, Mathis will lead a team focused on providing specialized treasury management, capital market access, and merger and acquisition advisory services to contractors supporting agencies like NASA and the Department of Energy.
SouthState President Richard Murray noted that the bank’s existing nine-state footprint, which encompasses numerous military bases and ports, makes the expansion a natural evolution for the organization. By integrating Mathis’s operational experience with their existing commercial infrastructure, the bank aims to provide a tailored financial approach to a sector that frequently navigates complex federal regulatory cycles. Mathis will also leverage his extensive ties to the Huntsville business community to drive the bank's initial outreach in the government contracting space.
