The MiniMed Flex system relies on the company’s SmartGuard algorithm, which automates insulin delivery by processing real-time glucose readings. To mitigate the impact of missed meal boluses or miscalculated carbohydrate intake, the device includes Meal Detection technology. The pump accommodates up to 300 units of insulin and utilizes the Extended infusion set, rated for seven days of continuous wear.
MiniMed CEO Que Dallara noted that the integration aims to reduce the daily cognitive load on patients. According to company data from the similar 780G system, users maintaining recommended settings reached an 80% time-in-range metric, with over 90% achieved during overnight hours. The system is FDA-cleared for type 1 diabetes patients aged seven and older, as well as adults with insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes. The rollout is supported by a new marketing initiative emphasizing the pump’s ability to remain discreet while maintaining 24/7 automation.
