The new funding arrives as the firm, owned by Apollo Global Management since 2022, works to navigate significant financial headwinds. Earlier this year, reports indicated the company entered negotiations with creditors to address a €1.1 billion debt obligation maturing in 2030. Financial pressure mounted following a credit rating downgrade by Moody’s to Caa2 in February, citing high leverage and negative free cash flow.
CEO Floris de Kort intends to deploy the capital to accelerate product development and bolster the company’s global support infrastructure. Expansion plans include establishing new operational hubs in London, San Francisco, and Istanbul to improve proximity to key partners. The company has faced a challenging market environment, losing significant ground in the physical terminal space to lower-cost Chinese rivals like PAX. De Kort remains optimistic that the fresh liquidity will allow the firm to simplify its operations and effectively compete in the shift toward software-defined payment ecosystems.
