Dolly Parton Cancels Dollywood Appearance Following Doctor’s Orders

Dolly Parton was forced to skip the opening of the NightFlight Expedition attraction at Dollywood on August 14 after her physician grounded her. The country music icon appeared virtually instead, sporting a pair of signature fairy wings to explain that chronic dizziness and dehydration necessitated the last-minute travel ban.

Parton, who resides in Nashville, was scheduled to make the three-hour journey to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, for the theme park event. During her video address, she relayed that her doctor had effectively clipped her wings, prohibiting any travel for the week. The singer maintained her trademark humor while addressing the medical intervention, telling fans that when a professional issues such a mandate, compliance is the only option.

This absence follows a series of health-related disruptions for the 80-year-old artist. Over the past year, Parton has navigated significant personal losses, including the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025 and the passing of her brother, Coy “Denver” Parton, this past July. Previously, she canceled a Las Vegas residency after citing issues with kidney stones and imbalances in her immune and digestive systems. Despite these setbacks, Parton remains active in several professional ventures, including the development of a Broadway musical titled Dolly: A True Original Musical and ongoing projects involving her Nashville museum and the Songteller Hotel.
