Amazon expands campus locker footprint to 750 US locations

Amazon has surpassed 750 parcel locker installations across American colleges and universities, aiming to streamline logistics for transient student populations. Spanning more than 500 campuses nationwide, the deployment allows students to secure deliveries at self-service hubs rather than relying on traditional campus mailroom infrastructure.

The initiative integrates into Amazon’s broader domestic network of 25,000 pickup points. Students can designate a locker as their delivery address during checkout, with the service provided at no additional cost. Once a package arrives, users receive a unique code or barcode via email or the company’s mobile app to unlock the terminal.

Viraj Chatterjee, Vice President of Amazon Transportation, noted that the expansion seeks to align parcel collection with the flow of campus life rather than forcing students to adhere to restrictive mailroom schedules. Packages remain in lockers for three calendar days; items not retrieved within this window are automatically returned for a refund. To accommodate busy academic calendars, students may also authorize third parties to collect their orders by forwarding the necessary pickup instructions.
