Just Eat scales voice AI as retail automation gathers pace

Just Eat has become the first major on-demand delivery platform to deploy a conversational AI assistant across European markets. Designed to mimic natural conversation, the tool helps customers navigate restaurant and grocery options, moving away from traditional search interfaces to reduce the friction of choosing what to eat.

The rollout follows initial testing in the UK and Germany, where early data indicates that voice-guided shoppers find items 40% faster than those using standard text-based AI. Beyond speed, these users show a 30% higher propensity to select recommended dishes. Jörg Gerbig, Chief Corporate Development Officer at Just Eat, noted that the primary hurdle in modern food delivery is not availability, but the decision-making process itself.

Elsewhere in the sector, Ocado Group and Lotte Shopping have launched a high-tech customer fulfilment centre in Busan, South Korea. The facility introduces "Auto-Freezer" technology capable of operating at -25° C, alongside a 100% electric vehicle fleet for daytime deliveries. Meanwhile, in Spain, Supermercados El Jamón is embarking on a three-year digital transformation, selecting Hanshow to install nearly three million electronic shelf labels across its network to modernize inventory management.
