Stratus Vineyards Secures Ontario’s First B Corp Winery Certification

The certification process, managed by the non-profit B Lab, evaluates a company’s entire footprint rather than focusing on a single metric. For Stratus, this recognition validates a sustainability strategy that dates back to its 2005 opening as the world’s first LEED-certified winery. By integrating governance, community engagement, and employee welfare into its core business model, the winery has moved beyond traditional viticulture to adopt a holistic approach.

General Manager Suzanne Janke noted that the designation formalizes the winery's ethical evolution, challenging the team to assess every business decision for its broader social impact. Specific initiatives driving the score include the adoption of lightweight, reusable glass to lower carbon emissions, the cultivation of local supply chains, and consistent support for cultural and environmental non-profits. With 55 acres under sustainable management, Stratus intends to continue leveraging its position as an industry leader to prove that high-end winemaking and corporate responsibility are mutually reinforcing goals.
