China Automotive Systems Profits Surge as EPS Sales Drive Growth

China Automotive Systems reported a 98% jump in net income for the first half of 2026, reaching $29.3 million despite a cooling domestic vehicle market. The Hubei-based supplier attributed the performance to rising demand for electric power steering technology and successful expansion into international OEM supply chains.

Net sales climbed 20.1% year-over-year to $412.5 million, bolstered by a 32.2% increase in electric power steering (EPS) product sales, which now account for nearly half of the company's total revenue. While industry data from the China Association of Automotive Manufacturers showed a 4% decline in domestic production and sales, China Automotive Systems bypassed this trend by securing new contracts in South America and Europe. The company has since raised its full-year revenue guidance to $850 million.

Operational gains were further supported by a 49.7% rise in gross profit, reaching $88.5 million. CEO Qizhou Wu noted that the firm is aggressively pivoting toward autonomous driving features, including lane-keep assist and active steering, to sustain this trajectory. Following these results, the company maintains a solid cash position of $155.6 million, even as it continues to ramp up capital expenditure on R&D and automated production lines to meet global tier-1 standards.
