Judge Denies Ray J’s Bid to Dismiss Kardashian Defamation Suit

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has rejected Ray J’s attempt to quash a defamation lawsuit brought by Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner, clearing the path for the case to proceed. The court determined that the singer’s livestreamed remarks could be interpreted as factual claims rather than mere hypotheticals.

Ray J had argued that his comments, made during a Twitch broadcast, were off-the-cuff statements spoken while he was unaware the camera was rolling. The judge dismissed this defense, noting that a reasonable audience would perceive the accusations—which included allegations of criminal activity—as statements of fact. The litigation stems from a lawsuit filed by Kardashian and Jenner in October 2025, in which they allege the singer caused significant damage to their reputations. Alex Spiro, representing the reality stars, characterized the remarks as the actions of a man unable to move past a relationship that ended two decades ago.

The legal conflict has since expanded into a broader dispute. Ray J filed a countersuit one month later, accusing the pair of breaching a $6 million settlement agreement from 2023. He is seeking $1 million in damages, alleging that the original lawsuit was a tactical move to generate publicity for their media enterprises. While the defamation case is now set for a 2028 trial, the proceedings highlight a pattern of high-profile legal battles surrounding the Kardashian family, including a separate, recently dismissed privacy suit involving Ivan Cantu. Despite a court order requiring Cantu to cover $167,000 in legal fees, Kardashian waived the debt, effectively ending that dispute.
