Perez Hilton Grants Mother Temporary Custody Amid Hospitalization

Blogger Perez Hilton has voluntarily transferred temporary legal custody of his three children to his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, as he undergoes treatment following a self-harm crisis. The court filing, signed by Hilton, aims to stabilize the care of Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, during his recovery.

The Miami court documents, filed August 7, grant Lavandeira full authority to manage the children’s medical, educational, and daily needs. This arrangement is not a legal dispute; Hilton consented to the transfer, acknowledging it serves the children’s best interest while he remains in a serious but stable condition under Florida’s Baker Act. His recovery follows an August 4 incident at his Miami home that required surgical intervention for significant blood loss.

Lavandeira has petitioned the court to seal the proceedings, citing a need to shield the children from further trauma and public scrutiny. The family is attempting to manage the situation privately, following previous requests for media to respect the children's privacy. While the custody transfer is temporary, any future return of rights to Hilton will likely require a court-approved transition plan. The move marks a shift for the family, who relocated from Las Vegas to Miami earlier this year to be closer to relatives following Hilton’s previous health struggles.
