CeraVe Rebuilds Campus Culture to Counter Rising Tanning Trends

Facing a surge in Gen Z tanning culture, CeraVe has launched a social-first campaign that transforms a Florida sorority backyard into a sun-safe environment. Led by renovation expert Tyler Cameron and dermatologist Dr. Chloe Goldman, the project aims to replace risky habits with accessible, dermatologist-backed shade and SPF solutions.

The campaign targets a shift in digital behavior, noting that Google Trends data shows a 40% increase in searches for tanning oil. With over one-fifth of Gen Z adults admitting they prioritize a tan over long-term skin health, the brand shifted its strategy from traditional warnings to environmental design. By partnering with the Tri Delta Alpha Eta Chapter in Florida, the team replaced an underutilized lawn with a pergola, UV-reactive signage, and dedicated sunscreen stations featuring the newly launched CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50.

Tyler Cameron, who managed the physical build, emphasized that the goal was to integrate protection into a space students naturally inhabit. Dr. Chloe Goldman provided the dermatological framework, ensuring the renovation addressed the practical barriers to sun safety—specifically the white cast often associated with mineral formulas. The episodic social series documenting the project begins with a symbolic demolition of a tanning bed, signaling a broader effort to make daily SPF application a seamless, normalized part of campus life rather than an afterthought.
