S&P Dow Jones Indices Accelerates Private Credit Reporting

Investors tracking private debt now have access to more granular, frequent data as S&P Dow Jones Indices and Lincoln International shift their benchmark series from quarterly to monthly reporting. The expanded toolkit includes new sub-indices designed to offer deeper visibility into the U.S. and European private lending markets.

The enhanced S&P Lincoln Senior Debt Index Series integrates Lincoln International’s proprietary valuation datasets with S&P DJI’s index governance framework. By moving to a monthly cadence, the firms aim to provide a more responsive barometer for investors navigating the rapid shifts in private credit performance. The update allows for nuanced analysis across specific sectors such as technology, healthcare, and industrials, alongside performance metrics segmented by borrower size and earnings.

Cameron Drinkwater, Chief Product & Operations Officer at S&P DJI, noted that visibility serves as a strategic advantage in a fast-growing market that has historically lacked independent, high-frequency benchmarks. Ron Kahn, Managing Director at Lincoln International, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the addition of sector-specific sub-indices directly addresses the rising demand for transparency in direct lending. S&P DJI remains the sole administrator and calculator for the series, maintaining the rules-based methodology that underpins these benchmarks.
