Ascensus Rebrands Small Business Retirement Suite as Essentials

Dresher-based financial services firm Ascensus has rebranded its small business retirement offering as Ascensus Essentials, introducing new 3(16) administrative fiduciary services and a specialized 401(k) solution featuring Vanguard investments to simplify plan management for employers and their advisors.

The rebranding replaces the company’s former CoPilot platform, shifting the focus toward reducing administrative friction. Internal research highlights a critical awareness gap in the sector: 48% of plan sponsors remain unfamiliar with 3(16) fiduciary services, despite fiduciary risk ranking as their primary concern. By outsourcing tasks like eligibility tracking and contribution monitoring, the new suite aims to mitigate these liabilities while streamlining the onboarding process.

Efficiency gains are central to the rollout. The firm has overhauled its digital onboarding, cutting setup times from over 20 days to as few as 2.5 days. According to company data, this shift has eliminated common errors in submissions and reduced plan cancellations during the implementation phase. Advisors can now manage Individual(k) setups directly through the company’s Advisor Central hub.

Mary Torgerson, head of small business retirement at Ascensus, stated that the move is designed to provide scalable capabilities that grow alongside a business. This update arrives as data shows a disconnect in the market; while 98% of organizations offer retirement plans, only 58% of employers believe their staff fully utilizes them. The company intends for these simplified digital tools to bridge that engagement gap by making plan adoption less burdensome.
