The joint initiative integrates OpenAssets’ specialized tokenization infrastructure with the market reach of Itaú. By participating in the ANBIMA pilot, which currently involves over 50 financial organizations, the pair seeks to define how capital market instruments like debentures can be issued, settled, and managed within rigorous institutional frameworks. The work focuses on technical proofs of concept, the establishment of architecture standards, and the refinement of compliance protocols required for production-grade digital finance.
"Brazil has been one of the most forward-looking markets in finance and it is a natural place to move tokenization from exploration to production," said Gabor Gurbacs, Chairman and CEO of OpenAssets. This effort signals a shift in strategy for local capital markets, moving away from isolated experiments toward shared, standardized infrastructure. For Itaú, the project serves as a key component in expanding its digital ecosystem, aligning traditional banking services with the emerging requirements of distributed ledger technology.
