H.I.G. Capital Acquires Engineering Specialist Phoenix ME

Global investment firm H.I.G. Capital has acquired London-based Phoenix ME Limited, a move aimed at scaling the engineering provider’s presence in the booming data center and life sciences sectors. Phoenix founder Lee Compton will maintain a stake in the business while Jim Arnold steps in as the new Chairman.

Phoenix ME, which has operated since 1931, specializes in complex mechanical and electrical engineering for mission-critical infrastructure across the UK and Europe. The acquisition positions the firm to accelerate its growth strategy through both organic expansion and potential future bolt-on acquisitions. H.I.G. Managing Director John Harper noted that the firm intends to capitalize on the rapid growth anticipated in Phoenix’s core end markets over the coming years.

Management continuity remains a priority, with the existing leadership team staying on to drive operations. H.I.G. brings the backing of a $75 billion investment portfolio to support Phoenix’s next phase of development. By integrating H.I.G.’s operational resources with Phoenix’s established track record in high-profile infrastructure projects, the partnership targets a larger footprint in the competitive European engineering landscape.
