Travis Barker Urged Son Landon to Reject 'The Voice' Offer

When Landon Barker received an invitation to appear on The Voice, his father, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, intervened with a blunt assessment. He advised the 22-year-old musician to turn down the reality singing competition, arguing that the platform would compromise the artistic authenticity Landon needs to cultivate his own career.

Speaking on The New York Times’ “Popcast,” the elder Barker explained that he challenged his son to consider his musical influences. He posed a hypothetical question: would an artist like Kurt Cobain ever participate in a show like The Voice? By framing the decision through the lens of his son’s idols, the drummer emphasized the importance of patience and building a unique identity over chasing immediate exposure.

While Travis Barker has performed on shows like American Idol, he drew a clear distinction between his own appearances and his son’s potential path. As a drummer, his role is rarely at the forefront, allowing him to treat television spots as fun side projects rather than career-defining moments. For Landon, who is currently signed to his father’s label, DTA Records, the stakes are different. Barker remains involved in his son’s studio work, producing his 2023 debut solo single, “Friends With Your Ex,” and encouraging him to rely on his own creative instincts rather than industry shortcuts.
