Just Eat expands AI voice ordering across European markets

Just Eat Takeaway.com is scaling its conversational AI voice assistant across Europe, marking a push to become the first major on-demand delivery platform to deploy this technology at such breadth. The tool, which launched earlier this year in the UK and Germany, is now arriving on iOS and Android devices continent-wide.

The assistant allows users to search for restaurants, grocers, and shops using natural language, aiming to simplify the decision-making process for customers who are unsure of what to order. Early internal data from the UK indicates that the voice-driven interface helps users find items 40% faster than those relying on text-based search. Furthermore, customers utilizing the assistant are 30% more likely to accept a recommended dish or restaurant.

Jörg Gerbig, Chief Corporate Development Officer at Just Eat, noted that the primary hurdle in food delivery is not the lack of options, but the difficulty of choosing. By allowing customers to describe their cravings in their own words, the company aims to remove friction from the ordering experience and shift the focus from providing mere volume to delivering the right choice.
