Supermercados El Jamón begins three-year digital shelf label rollout

Spanish grocery chain Supermercados El Jamón is launching a major digital transformation, committing to the installation of nearly three million electronic shelf labels across its southern Spain network. The three-year initiative aims to refine store environments by prioritizing technological innovation to support both in-store teams and the customer experience.

The project follows a broader trend of European retailers adopting automated pricing and inventory systems to improve operational efficiency. By replacing traditional paper labels with Hanshow’s digital solutions, the retailer intends to modernize its store model across more than 370 locations. This transition is designed to ensure greater pricing accuracy and streamline labor-intensive tasks for staff.

This shift mirrors similar moves in the industry, including a significant digital rollout by Tesco, which is currently integrating electronic shelf labels across 3,000 stores to reduce costs and enhance accuracy. As retailers continue to navigate an increasingly omnichannel environment, the focus on digital shelf technology has become a cornerstone of physical store modernization.
