Columbus Hosts NAIC Summer Meeting as Local Industry Leaders Convene

Insurance regulators and industry stakeholders are gathering in Columbus, Ohio, from August 11 to 14, 2026, for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Summer National Meeting. The four-day hybrid event serves as a platform for professionals to address pressing regulatory challenges and discuss the evolving insurance landscape.

Joe Petrelli, president and co-founder of the Columbus-based financial analysis firm Demotech, Inc., highlighted the city's unique position as a hub for both state insurance oversight and fraud prevention efforts. He noted that the presence of the Ohio Department of Insurance and industry advocates like Michelle Rafeld, Executive Director of the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, underscores the regional importance of the gathering.

Sharon Romano Petrelli emphasized that the meeting reinforces the significance of state regulation, which has anchored the industry’s antitrust exemption since the 1945 McCarran-Ferguson Act. For the firm, the assembly offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with regulators on transparency and consumer protection. Established in 1985, Demotech operates as a nationally recognized statistical rating organization, providing financial stability ratings for various insurance sectors, including property, casualty, and life underwriters.
