Schneider Electric Unveils Modular Multi-Chemistry UPS Platform

By decoupling the power hardware from battery chemistry, Schneider Electric’s new APC Smart-UPS allows data centers and edge IT sites to swap energy storage technologies without replacing the entire unit. The platform, debuting at the Xchange event, aims to solve the industry’s persistent issue of premature system obsolescence.

The next-generation APC Smart-UPS supports both valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) and lithium-ion batteries, with an architecture designed to accommodate future chemistries as they emerge. This modularity enables operators to start with cost-effective VRLA options and transition to lithium-ion or newer technologies as their needs evolve, all within the same chassis. According to Manish Kumar, Executive Vice President of Secure Power and Data Centers, the design ensures that today’s hardware investments remain viable against tomorrow’s energy innovations.

Technically, the platform offers significant efficiency gains over previous models, including a 40% reduction in power loss and up to 1.4x higher power density. It also features 57% more outlets and supports up to 10 external battery packs for extended runtime. The system integrates with EcoStruxure IT software, which provides centralized health monitoring, energy insights, and cybersecurity protection certified to IEC 62443 Security Level 2. The SRTD On-Line series, the initial offering in this range, will be available for order in North America starting September 1, 2026, targeting servers and networking equipment in medical and light industrial sectors.
