Adult learners pivot to skilled trades at Georgia's UEI campuses

Taylor Payne, a recipient of the Be the Change Scholarship, turned to the Electrician Technician program at the Morrow campus after an AI-driven layoff halted her career in information technology. Her experience mirrors that of other students like Alicia Vernon, who transitioned from the Army National Guard to medical assisting. These career changes rely on a model of hands-on lab training and hybrid scheduling designed to accommodate the realities of balancing family obligations with full-time work.

Support systems remain a core component of the curriculum. Ki'aira Staples, a graduate of the Stone Mountain facility, credits the diverse campus community with providing the necessary foundation to build professional confidence. To showcase these facilities, the institute will host open house events on August 12 and 13, allowing prospective students to tour labs and consult with admissions staff. The Georgia locations currently offer certifications in fields ranging from automotive repair to HVAC and medical billing.
