Barry Gosin to step down as Newmark CEO after five decades

After leading Newmark Group through nearly 50 years of expansion, CEO Barry Gosin will step down from his daily operational role on December 31, 2026. Gosin, who has steered the firm since 1979, will remain as Chairman of the company's operating subsidiary to oversee the transition until at least 2029.

The departure marks the end of an era for the commercial real estate firm, which Gosin helped transform into a global powerhouse. Under his tenure, Newmark achieved a rapid trajectory, including a 2017 initial public offering and a revenue increase exceeding 1,400% since 2011. The company now employs approximately 10,000 professionals across 195 locations worldwide.

Stephen Merkel, Chairman of the Board, credited Gosin with building a deep leadership bench capable of sustaining the company’s growth. The Board of Directors intends to name a successor by the end of the year. For his part, Gosin plans to pivot from day-to-day management to focus on high-impact strategic initiatives, ensuring stability as the firm enters its next chapter.
