Ioan Gruffudd Wins Restraining Order But Faces Continued Financial Strain

After a nine-day hearing in Los Angeles, a judge has granted actor Ioan Gruffudd a five-year restraining order against his ex-wife, Alice Evans, while simultaneously denying his bid to terminate spousal support payments, signaling a complex conclusion to their four-year legal battle over harassment and community property division.

Judge Michael J. Convey issued a split decision that validates the actor's claims of domestic abuse while maintaining his financial obligations. The court found that Evans’ conduct, including persistent online harassment, caused significant emotional distress and hindered Gruffudd's ability to maintain his career. In a sharp rebuke, the judge stated that Evans committed domestic violence against both Gruffudd and his current partner, Bianca Wallace, noting her failure to cease abusive social media behavior.

Despite this judicial backing, the financial outcome favored Evans. The court rejected Gruffudd’s assertion that he had overpaid his ex-wife by $400,000, ruling the actual overpayment was only $27,000. Under the terms of their prenuptial agreement, the actor must continue paying 10 percent of his gross income—approximately $1,862 monthly—in addition to $3,579 in monthly child support for their two daughters. The judge also criticized Evans for failing to disclose a $168,000 savings account in a timely manner, describing the omission as an impairment to her credibility.

Throughout the proceedings, Gruffudd argued that his annual income plummeted from $585,000 to $125,000 due to Evans’ public campaign to damage his professional reputation. While his attorney, Joseph Langlois, contended that these malicious accusations effectively ruined his standing in Hollywood, the court’s final ruling reinforces that while the harassment must stop, the actor remains bound by his previous financial commitments.
