Hyundai and Baystate Health Partner to Bolster Child Seat Safety

With nearly half of all car seats installed incorrectly, a new partnership in Holyoke, Massachusetts, is aiming to bridge the gap between safety equipment and parental expertise. Hyundai Motor America has committed $25,000 to the Baystate Health Foundation to fund injury prevention and provide essential equipment to local families.

The initiative, spearheaded alongside Gary Rome Hyundai, centers on hands-on inspections led by certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. During the event, experts scrutinized seats for expiration dates and recall notices while guiding caregivers through proper installation techniques. The funding supports the hospital’s Pediatric Trauma Surgery Injury Prevention Car Seat Program, which has distributed more than 240 seats to families in need since the collaboration launched in 2023.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, correct installation reduces the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers. Cole Stutz, chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor North America, noted that direct engagement with families remains the most effective way to address the prevalence of installation errors. Gary Rome, CEO of the Gary Rome Auto Group, emphasized that the program provides tangible tools to ensure children remain secure during transit, reinforcing a long-term commitment to regional health and safety.
