The appointment arrives as CEB undergoes a modernization phase, moving to integrate AI-driven tools into its long-standing research offerings. CEO Kelly Lake cited James’s decades of experience as a critical asset for translating recent product investments into market expansion. James, a lawyer by training, joins the firm following a tenure leading sales for Thomson Reuters' tax and accounting division and a stint as CEO of AccessData.
CEB has spent the last year and a half aggressively broadening its portfolio. This includes the acquisition of Attorney's BriefCase, which effectively doubled the company’s reach in the state’s family law sector, and the launch of AI-enabled research platforms like CEB Insight. James is expected to leverage his background in digital forensics and compliance to help California firms navigate an increasingly complex, technology-reliant legal environment.
