William M. Crowley Appointed CEO of National Kidney Foundation of Illinois

After a comprehensive search led by its Board of Directors, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois has named William M. Crowley as its next Chief Executive Officer. Crowley, who brings 25 years of healthcare leadership to the role, will officially succeed retiring CEO Jackie Burgess-Bishop on August 24, 2026.

Crowley joins the organization from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, where he currently serves as Executive Director of Clinical Operations. His extensive background includes senior leadership roles at OptumHealth United Health Group, Fresenius Medical Care, and DaVita. A registered nurse with degrees from the University of Iowa, Crowley views this appointment as a return to his professional roots in renal care.

Board President Curt Anliker cited Crowley’s specific expertise in kidney disease program development as the catalyst for his selection. The transition concludes a search process conducted by an internal committee tasked with identifying a successor to Burgess-Bishop, who led the foundation for seven years. Crowley intends to focus his tenure on the impact of early detection and intervention in altering patient outcomes for those living with chronic and end-stage renal disease.
