Brightstar Lottery Profits Rise Amid Global Sales Expansion

Brightstar Lottery PLC reported second-quarter profits of $56 million, marking a significant recovery from the $60 million loss recorded during the same period last year. Driven by steady growth in global same-store sales and disciplined cost management, the company is now positioning itself for an inflection in cash flow.

The London-based lottery operator achieved an Adjusted EBITDA of $286 million, a 4% increase over the previous year, despite facing headwinds from the U.K. contract transition and higher amortization costs associated with the Italy Lotto license. While total revenue dipped 7% to $584 million, management highlighted that global iLottery wagers continue to expand at a double-digit pace, helping to offset broader market pressures.

Following the finalization of the €1.43 billion Italy Lotto license payment in April, the company is now shifting its focus toward further operational efficiency. CEO Vince Sadusky stated that the company is intensifying its "OPtiMa" cost-savings program, with targets upgraded to $100 million by 2028. This third phase of the initiative involves streamlining management layers and optimizing the firm's global real estate footprint. Brightstar maintained its 2026 outlook for revenue and profit, underscoring a commitment to shareholder returns after deploying $140 million year-to-date.
