Sara Coverdale departs Asda following Project Future transformation

After four years steering Asda’s complex IT infrastructure overhaul, Enterprise Architect Sara Coverdale is exiting the retailer. She will relocate to Stockholm to join supply chain specialist Optilon, marking the end of a tenure defined by the high-stakes Project Future initiative that rebuilt the supermarket’s entire digital landscape from scratch.

Reflecting on her time at Asda, Coverdale highlighted the intensity of the Project Future programme, describing the effort to construct a new supermarket IT environment as one of the most significant challenges in her career. She credits the success of this transition to a collaborative spirit between internal teams and external partners, noting that the experience pushed her well beyond her traditional comfort zone.

Looking ahead, Coverdale transitions to the role of Head of Engineering and Architecture at Optilon. She views the current retail climate as a pivotal moment for global supply chains, citing ongoing geopolitical instability as a primary driver for the increased complexity facing modern businesses. In her new capacity, she intends to focus on creating more efficient, intelligent systems to help companies navigate these operational hurdles.
