PepsiCo APAC Targets Scope 3 Emissions via Green Ammonia Certificates

The partnership, running from 2026 through 2030, leverages Envision’s Chifeng Net Zero Industrial Park, currently the world’s largest green hydrogen project. The initial delivery of 1,000 tonnes of certificates is projected to offset approximately 5,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This model allows PepsiCo to address Scope 3 emissions—often the most fragmented segment of food production—without altering existing procurement or production chains.

Central to this initiative is the Book & Claim system, managed via the S3 Markets registry. This framework separates the environmental benefits of low-carbon ammonia production from the physical commodity, enabling traceable, auditable claims of sustainability. According to Saman Baghestani, CEO of S3 Markets, the system ensures that infrastructure remains as credible as the production process itself. For PepsiCo, this approach provides a scalable pathway to meeting net-zero goals by 2050, effectively targeting emissions hotspots in farming and food processing while avoiding the costs associated with transporting physical green ammonia over long distances.
