Islander expands beyond Scotland with flagship Covent Garden store

Handbag and accessory brand Islander has officially entered the London market, opening its first retail location outside of Scotland in Covent Garden. Designed by Dalziel & Pow, the flagship aims to transition the brand from a regional Scottish staple into a destination for collaborative, craft-focused shopping experiences.

The new space moves away from traditional retail layouts, centering on a dedicated workshop where customers can build and personalize their own satchels. This interactive zone serves as the anchor for the store, encouraging visitors to document and share their bespoke creations within a social setting. By integrating these collaborative elements, the design seeks to highlight the brand’s heritage while appealing to a broader, design-conscious audience.

Tim Graveling, Creative Director at Dalziel & Pow, noted that the project emphasizes the brand's focus on materials and craftsmanship. According to Pei Ferguson, Company Director at Islander, the expansion represents a milestone for the company, which has operated seven stores across Scotland. The London opening is intended to invite shoppers into the brand’s narrative, bridging the gap between historical manufacturing techniques and modern retail participation.
