Sudarshan Kamath, founder and CEO of Smallest.ai, argues that the industry has hit a wall by focusing on model size rather than architectural efficiency. His company aims to overcome these limitations with Voice 4.0, a paradigm shift that enables AI to listen, reason, and respond simultaneously.
The core of this technology is Hydra, an asynchronous AI model that processes speech in parallel. By eliminating the wait times inherent in sequential processing, Hydra allows for natural interruptions and fluid conversational flow. This stack is supported by the company's existing Pulse STT Pro and Lightning TTS models, which currently rank among the top performers on the Artificial Analysis leaderboard for speed and cost efficiency.
Smallest.ai is targeting high-volume sectors including financial services, healthcare, and contact centers, where organizations report up to an 80% reduction in support costs through automation. With nearly 60 employees and a client roster that includes RingCentral and Truecaller, the startup plans to leverage the new funding to scale its infrastructure. Ashish Kakran, managing partner at Seligman Ventures, noted that the firm’s vertically integrated approach allows enterprises to avoid the complexity of stitching together disparate AI tools, positioning them to lead the next generation of voice-driven business operations.
