Eva Mendes Calls Out Viral AI Image of Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp

“FAKE. Please let people know when you’re putting out AI,” Eva Mendes wrote after discovering a viral Instagram post that depicted her partner, Ryan Gosling, walking alongside Johnny Depp at San Diego Comic-Con. The fabricated image, which fooled many fans, never actually occurred as the actors attended the convention on different days.

The digital illustration, shared by the account @opavisions, portrayed the two stars moving through the convention crowds as an "unlikely best-friend trio." The post initially presented the scene as a candid moment, complete with a detailed caption about their supposed interactions. Mendes’ direct intervention in the comment section forced the account to issue an apology and retroactively label the content as artificial intelligence. The creator eventually disabled comments on the post, reducing the original lengthy description to a single word: "AI."

The image gained traction because it cleverly integrated real events from the weekend. Johnny Depp made a legitimate, highly publicized appearance at the convention dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge to promote his upcoming film, while Ryan Gosling appeared later to announce his casting as Ghost Rider in a 2028 Marvel project. While the public and the media scrambled to piece together the supposed crossover, the reality remained that the two actors were never in the same place at the same time. For Mendes, the incident served as a sharp reminder of the necessity for transparency as AI-generated imagery increasingly blurs the line between captured reality and digital fiction.
